William Anthony Tanner (Tony), 64, of Russellville, Ky., died unexpectedly of cancer on September 21, 2021, at Saint Thomas Midtown in Nashville, Tennessee.
A loving husband, father, brother, and friend, Tony is survived by his wife, Trena Tanner; his children, Shannon Hester (Chris) of Nashville, Tenn., Kristy Fowler (Brock) of Elkton, Ky, and Brandon Tanner (Holly) of Trenton, Ky; his grandchildren, Tristen Hester (Amanda), Bracey Hester, Breanna Fowler, Bethany Fowler and Jackson Combs; his great granddaughter, Brinlee Paige George; his sisters, Debbie Tanner, Diane Tanner, and Kimberly Tanner Warden.
Tony was born on November 27, 1956 in Russellville, Kentucky to Olga and William Tanner. He married the love of his life, Trena Tanner, on January 16, 1976. His priority in life was to provide and care for Trena, as she has cared for so many in need. Tony always provided a helping hand to anyone in need—whether they were family, friends, or strangers.
Tony and Trena shared many beautiful moments and raised three children. Tony was proud of each one of his children and loved them more than anything. Tony was a wonderful grandfather, who spoiled each grandchild. He made each grandchild feel special. Tony entertained them with backyard camping, fishing, zoo trips, big foot hunting, pretend cooking shows, and flea market trips—where he'd buy them the wackiest gifts and do anything to make them smile.
Tony was a member of Pea Ridge House of Prayer, loved God with all his heart, and served as the piano player and song leader for over twenty-five years. For most of his life, Tony was self-employed. He owned a used car dealership and also worked at Bridgestone Metalpha in Clarksville, Tennessee. Most recently, Tony worked alongside his son, Brandon at Big Boys Auto Sales in Russellville, Ky.
A graveside-only service will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021, 2 p.m., at Pea Ridge Cemetery on 1465 Williams Road in Elkton, Kentucky with Reverend Kevin Heflin officiating. The family requests that attendees at the outdoor service please wear a mask, maintain a safe distance (i.e., minimum 6 feet) and avoid close contact (e.g., handshakes and hugs).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Cremation & Funeral Care on the funeral home website c/o Trena Tanner to assist with medical expenses. The family appreciates your prayers.
