James "Jim" Rushing III Obituary

James “Jim” Crawford Rushing III, age 76 of Hopkinsville, passed away on Monday, September 21st at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born November 25, 1943 in Brunswick, Georgia the son of the late James Ethridge and Josie Christine Farmer Rushing.

Known by many as “Sonny” he grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. Throughout his career he worked as a CPA, CEO and CFO of several companies in Dallas, Texas and Nashville, Tennessee.

Jim was known for telling corny jokes and he loved to cut up. He always seemed to have a smile on his face. He was full of life, loved to laugh and make others laugh. He loved spending time with his family, being involved in church, playing tennis and watching the Dallas Cowboys. If he wasn’t watching Blue Bloods and Walker Texas Ranger, you would find him listening to music. Among his favorites were southern gospel, smooth jazz and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He loved God’s word and was a part of the Darrell Waltrip bible study in Nashville for many years. He was a big-hearted man who poured his life into others. He was a generous man and if you had a need, he would try to fill it. He was a regular attender of Restoration House Family Worship Center in Hopkinsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by a son Michael Shane Rushing of Hopkinsville; a daughter Karan Beaird (Bill) of Cadiz; three grandchildren Hannah Karan Watts, Luke David Watts and Levi Crawford Watts all of Cadiz; one great grandchild Callie Rae Watts of Cadiz and a sister Jolene Strickland (Tommy) of Petal, Mississippi.

It was his wishes to be cremated. There will be a Celebration of Life Service held at Restoration House Family Worship Center in Hopkinsville at a later date.
